Ugly Duckling Shorts

At Ugly Duckling Films, we are passionate about finding new voices and supporting emerging talent. Occasionally, we will develop short films with filmmakers who we find inspiring and wish to accompany on their journey through to feature filmmaking.

Old Town

Dir. Jacob John Harmer

In a bygone fishing community, Joey is struggling to deal with the resentment and anger he feels as his dreams lie in tatters. His father, having lost the family boat at sea and thereby robbing Joey of his chance at being captain, is ostracised after claiming a giant serpent sank the boat.

Now a skipper to his uncle Captain Mark, Joey harbours this humiliation while contending with a growing animosity between his cousin Sammy and himself.

Old Town marks commercials director Jacob John Harmer's first foray into narrative filmmaking. Des Hamilton is casting, with music composed by Yann Tiersen (Amelie, Hurricane).
